Any Reviews of Yamaha Disklavier Music?

Any Reviews of Yamaha Disklavier Music?

2009-03-01 by ezephyr5

I've purchased various Yamaha Piano Soft and Smart Piano Soft titles. I
have found that the results vary in quality. Are there any reviews of
these titles? Does anyone care to share what they like and what they
don't.

For many of the Yamaha Smart Piano Soft titles, the piano overpowers
the music, mainly because the playback of the CD seems too soft and its
volume is weaker that it should be, even with the speakers and the
audio turned all the way up.

Some Smart Piano soft titles do not have this problem, so perhaps this
is becuase of the recording volume of the original CD.

Even for some of the Piano Solo titles, many of the performances come
across as "too fancy", in my opinion. Sometimes I think the performer
is trying to out-do the original artist --- and sometimes the results
are just too ornate.

Depsite all of that, there are some that I have purchased that I do
like considerably.

Hey there,

Yeah I totally agree, some titles are great and others fail to capture the song properly at all.

It's also annoying that you have to buy a entire CD and can't just download 1 song with piano data.... they are still way behind the times with stupid old bloated uncompressed wave files. A 192 or 256 MP3 (or even something efficient) would be good.

Plus, using the Mark 4 internet connection... I am continually frustrated in how much I have to pay for 1 song. Some are hard to tell if they are any good until you buy them (sample is too short). Also if they are 'general midi' it does warn you that the song might be shitty, but they charge pretty much the same price.. The only 'safe' purchases are from 'Sue Downs' but sometimes I feel that they are 'just churned out'.

:) hehe I like constructive winging.

Philip

The discountpianosoftware.com site, let users post or rate the piano
disks and CD's on site, but I believe they are going out of business.
You can also listen to a few samples on that site as well. I usually
stick with the piano only stuff as it sounds the best, most times. If
I want to listen to the audio type songs I play them in a nice stereo
system.

David Lanz has good piano disks.

I have a few self-produced Disklavier titles available here on either diskette or you can instantly download the files by clicking on the shopping cart icon and paying with PayPal (you can also preview them as audio before you buy) -

You can adjust the balance of the music vs. the piano in the Volume control window -- in the PRC, click on the speaker icon in the upper left corner and adjust the Audio slider to control the CD music volume. In DKVBrowser, click the Volume button in the upper left and adjust the Audio slider that will appear in the Volume window.

While George is correct in what he says, using that means of doing it will affect all songs, and the balance that you find will likely be different for other songs.

Instead, while the song is playing, hit the left side of the 4 way button on the bottom of the PRC to get to a page that says "Option" on the bottom. There you should see an "Audio Volume Adjust". That will let you alter the balance and the piano will remember the setting the next time that song is played.

Following George's lead... this same setting is available in the "Song Options" view in DKVBrowser.

I've also been using the "Song Options" recently for another means... I used to pre-process downloaded MIDI files to adjust their overall "velocity" or volume...I've stopped doing that, and now just use this screen to do it on the piano.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
