[disklavier] Re: Disklavier MX1

The dealer margin on new pianos is typically in the 45 to 60
percent range. There is very little competition for your local dealer, and
in many areas the local dealer has an actual monopoly. You will find a lot
of hostility on this list (dug) when it comes to discussing prices. Most
of the subscribers have already purchased a piano at an inflated price, and they
have very little interest in seeing reduced prices. You will find that
many people here expect more for their used piano than what a new what can be
purchased for if you're really willing to shop around.
What this industry really needs is a piano equivalent to
Edmunds or the Kelly Blue Book, but that's a different thread.
The short answer is that you can probably do better than the
prices you quoted. It's interesting to note that a 3 year old DC1IIXG
(5'3") sold on ebay earlier this month for $12,100.
You may want to move any further discussions on
price to the disklavier mailing list at egroups (www.egroups.com)
