Song Information

2009-10-27 by Joseph

Hi,

My question has to do with a song (midi file) I download from the FILES page. It was under the Piano Bar heading in the Cocktail folder Dated Nov 28 1999. The song is "Because I Love You" " by YJ Milton Delcam. I'd like to find the lyrics and when it was written. Is there someone who knows this writer.

Thanks
Joseph

PS I guest it goes without saying (but I will for the record)I think it's Sweet!

Delayed notes in Silent mode

2009-10-27 by mjd7282

I have an MPX 70 Disklavier with the Silent facility. When I play it in Silent mode and listen through headphones, I find that in pieces with lots of notes, or fistfuls of notes or perhaps combined with use of the sustaining pedal, the sound of the notes especially in the treble is noticeably delayed compared with the time they are struck. You can see examples of the type of music in which this is especially apparent on some of my YouTube videos (search for honkytonkpiano). Is there a way round this, or is it simply a problem with limited computing power in an old Disklavier?

Advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Mike Thomson

Googling I only found one with the same name from Stevie B.

Would it be the one?

Lyrics are in the net.

Thanks Jorge ,but that's not the same song. It's doesn't seem to be anywhere on the net .

I'm wondering if there is a musical research service or data base I could contact my snail mail or phone.

Cheers,
Joseph

Greetings JORGE,

Milton Delcamp was a performer for Ampico (American Piano Company).
He recorded quite a few rolls for them but only composed one and it is not
Because I love You. He did record Berlin's "Because I love You" for
Ampico so this may be what you have. Have you looked at the text information
in the file? There may be more identification. You can also compare the tune to
one on the web that is identified as by Berlin. There is also a tune by Berlin
"Because I Love You Too Much" which is some times shortened to
"Because I Love You".

Greetings Joseph,

I looked in the files area and did not find any MIDI files of what you describe. There are .fil files in a
similar location but no text information that I saw. However there is one file 208171 which is the Ampico
number for Because I Love You by Berlin recorded by Milton Delcamp so this is probably what you have.
Is it the .fil file of this that you are talking about? You can find the lyrics by searching for Because I Love You
Berlin lyrics.

I have a program that I wrote that allows you to add lyrics to a MIDI file to produce a .kar file. It works from
text copied from the web etc. If you send me the file in MIDI format, I can add the lyrics that will display in
VanBasco's if I get the time. I Like a lot of the Berlin songs and if this is a good recording I wouldn't mind
doing it. If anyone else is interested in this they can download the program which includes complete use
instructions from my download page. http://www.spencerserolls.com/Files4Download.html

Why am I lonely and why am I blue?
And why am I thinking, just thinking of you?
Why should I care if you've broken your vow?
And why do I wonder who's kissing you now?
Because I love you
I've tried so hard but can't forget
Because I love you
You linger in my memory yet
Because I miss you
I often wish we'd never met
And though you left a tear
As a souvenir
It doesn't matter dear
Because I love you

[2]
Off with the old love and on with the new
Is easy to say but not easy to do
What does it matter how far we're apart
You're out of my life, dear, but still in my heart

This song is probably:

"Because I Love You"
Words and Music by Irving Berlin
Copyrighted Sept. 29, 1926

VERSE I:

Why am I lonely and why am I blue,
And why am I thinking, just thinking of you?
Why should I care if you've broken your vow,
And why do I wonder who's kissing you now?

CHORUS:

Because I love you--
I've tried so hard but can't forget.
Because I love you--
You linger in my mem'ry yet.
Because I miss you--
I often wish we'd never met.
And though you left a tear
As a souvenir,
It doesn't matter, dear,
Because I love you.

VERSE 2:

"Off with the old love and on with the new"
Is easy to say but not easy to do.
What does it matter how far we're apart?
You're out of my life, dear, but still in my heart.

(Repeat chorus)

I agree with Spencer that J. Milton Delcamp (an arranger/performer with
Ampico) was incorrectly credited for the song, but maybe he was
responsible for this particular arrangement. I need to find time to
locate this particular music file and compare it.

Even that the version in the cocktail ZIP file (FIL) is slower and in a different mood, it seems to me that it is the same melody than in the piano roll files, so it should be the one that Mark mentions, by Irving Berlin

A new question,

Mark: where in the world can you find such old and well documented lyrics?
