Reducing MIDI file load times on DC7M4PRO

Reducing MIDI file load times on DC7M4PRO

2010-07-07 by bullard.madison

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on how to decrease the load time when calling up a MIDI file from the DKV hard drive. I'm dealing particularly with the load times of up to 8 seconds found when using the SYNC input to call up a MIDI file stored on the piano.

The sync source is streaming SMPTE time code to the piano. Once the piano begins receiving the SMPTE data via the SYNC input, the PRC controller shows "Loading" for around 8 seconds before being able to begin playback. This is not ideal for a performance that begins sooner than 8 seconds in, or for show in a demo environment where 8 seconds of dead air is a long time.

I am not interested in ways to get around cutting off the beginning of a performance, I know how to fix this, I am really only interested in ways to decrease or eliminate (ambitious, I know) such a prolonged load time.

One idea: could switching the onboard hard drive out in favor of a solid state drive reduce the delay? I feel like this might help, but not much, if any. Any clues?

Thank you all for your help!
