Newbie to the Group

2011-03-14 by chweiner1972

Hi, we just joined this forum as we purchased a used DGA1. The piano should be delivered in a few weeks and now begins the fun part of researching more about what this piano can do. Honestly, I'm a little overwhelmed by the files types and do have a few questions:
1.	Is the DGA1 upgradable with a DKC-850? We're primarily interested in the steaming radio, as software for the piano isn't cheap.
2.	How is the Disklavier Radio? Is it worth the subscription?
Once again, thanks and we're really looking forward to having this piano in our household.

Hi,
you can upgrade the DGA1 with the DKC850 - It's a direct replacement for the original control unit (keep the old unit for service/maintenance purposes).
Disklavier radio will give you 20-odd channels of variously themed music - I've not really tried it, apart from the complimentary channels, so I'm not sure if it's worth the subscription but, considering the price of disks/downloads, it seems to be good value for money.

Great, thanks athomik2001.
Out of curiosity- how much are people paying for the DKC-850? Is $1350 about the best price out there? I'm assuming this doesn't include the bracket that I'll need? If so, how much should I expect to pay for that?
Last question, how hard is this to do myself?

For the installation question:
I found the instructions that come with both the DKC-850 and the bracket to be excellent sources for installation and had mine hooked up in about 10-15min. Just follow the installation instruction step by step for your model of disklavier.

If you search for "Carol Beigel" & "DKC-850" on this site, there is a wealth of information Carol has provided. I found this also to be very useful. I think Yamaha has done a terrific job making this as easy and flexible as possible for the average user. It also comes with practically every cable/connector you'd need and detailed instructions.

Still if you're not sure, call a local Yamaha dealer as ask what they would charge to hook up the unit for you.

I have upgraded to a DKC 850 and found the Internet Radio feature great. If you buy software disks, you can get tired of the same type of music. The radio feature has 20 some channels and they change. There is Elton john music, Pop, Classical, Broadway, standards, Chopin etc etc. Very fun. I certainly would give it a try..

The eBay seller of brand new DKC-850 sells it for $1,350 shipped. On best offer basis, they can go down to $1,300 shipped.

How much are others paying? No need to state the dealership name if you don't feel like it.

Thanks.

Thanks, Joe.

I saw the ad on Ebay and was wondering if that was a good deal. We just paid for the piano, so the box will likely be a purchase in the next few months.
I do have a question for the group. I have no software yet for the piano, aside from the few discs that the seller is giving me, what is the best way to get started?
Speaking of Ebay, I saw these compilation disc sets that seem to be homemade. Does anyone have any experience with these sets?
Once again, this group has been great.
Chuck
