HCX and Line6 midi mobilizer

Any recommendations how to get HCX working with the Line6 midi mobilizer?
It seems that Ipad/HCX does not recognize the mobilizer. Thanks.

Good evening, everyone.

HCX does not work with the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer for 2 reasons:

(1) the device is not Core MIDI compatible

(2) it has latency

Apple did not support MIDI in the iOS (the operating system for the iPad, iPhone, iPodTouch) until last fall. MIDI Mobilizer was designed long before that.

In order for an app to work with MIDI Mobilizer, it must be programmed to communicate directly with the MM. There is no reason to do that in the case of HCX because the device has latency, and HCX depends upon instant MIDI communications in and out.

When Apple began to support MIDI in iOS last fall, Apple ported the "Core MIDI" feature of OS X to iOS. When an app is programmed to work with Core MIDI, it does not have to communicate with the external MIDI hardware directly. Instead, the app communicates with Core MIDI in the iOS which, in turn, communicates with the hardware. By using Core MIDI, an app is compatible with all Core MIDI-compliant devices.

To use a Disklavier with HCX running on the iPad, you need a Core MIDI-compliant USB MIDI interface and you need the Apple Camera Kit USB dongle. The Yamaha UX16 is an example of a Core MIDI-compliant USB MIDI interface. Alternatively, you can use MIDI cables and the iConnectMIDI interface. This interface does not need the Camera Kit dongle as it connects directly to the iPad.

For another recommendation, I'm using the USB Uno MIDI interface from
M-Audio with HCX on my iPad 1 (with the camera connection kit). It
works very well and can be had for around $36:

My piano has a Mark III. The benefit of using the USB Uno is that it
also works with a laptop (another platform where HCX is available).

One downside is that it is powered from the USB interface, so it will
reduce the battery time on your iPad.
