Good afternoon, everyone.

Kassey, this has been a topic of concern to Disklavier PRO owners for some time. As an owner of a DC6 IIXG PRO, I am in the same situation as you.

The DKC-850 supports the recording of Disklavier PRO XP data but does not support playback of the high resolution data. It is unclear to me whether the unit was specifically designed with this limitation in mind, whether it is a feature that is planned but not yet implemented, or something else.

I recommend that you contact Jim Levesque <JLevesque@...> directly on this matter. He is the Disklavier Marketing Manager for Yamaha Corporation of America and is the gateway to any sort of conversation with the Japanese side of the company where these design and feature decisions are made.

Regards,
PianoBench

I followed the suggestion of the Disklavier Tech Team when I upgraded my MK IIXG PRO to the DKC850 and am using the 850 to augment the MK II head unit which allows me to continue to use the amazing abilities of the Disklavier Pro. However, b/c of some silly worries about copy write protection the shirts at Yamaha Corporate made the decision to disable DK Radio reception so that unless you use the 850 solely as the master head-unit, you can't connect to the internet (local router/PC interface works fine).

Is there anyone out there that might know a way around this as I'd really love to sign up for this special offer, but I'm not willing to give up experiencing the magic of the PRO system. Manually swapping MIDI cables and resetting the 850 every time I want to use DK Radio is not only a waste of time, but over time not good for either head unit.

Work around would be greatly appreciated by all of us in my same situation. Thanks!

Hello George, and thank you very much for this information.

Also, I did try a work-around using a off-the-shelf DP-15 manual A-B switchbox with matching cables for both the DKC-850 and MKIIxg controller boxes so that re-cabling each time I wanted either controller to work would not be necessary. The Disklavier Teach Team were super helpful with access to wiring diagrams and more, but alas the pin-out configuration is very unique to the Disklavier systems and even though the connectors/cables are standard, the wiring configuration for each cable is not. So this did not work.

I would have been handy to just flip a switch and be able to cable up either controller (plus the 1 step on the 850 to set it as "add-on or replacement")

Studying the pin-out configuration on both controller cables, I'm guessing that this would not be able to be addressed by a simple software/firmware upgrade to the 850, but that's just an educated guess at this point. I'll try to pursue some answers with Jim.
