Gray Market Upgrade

Gray Market Upgrade

2012-04-30 by lpressley3

I have a circa 1991 gray market Disklavier. The only way to play music on it is through DD floppy disk. It also has a MIDI in and out. I've heard that, despite what everyone believes, this are upgradable. Does anyone know this to be true (or false). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

      Crawford

You can update your Disklavier by adding a Yamaha DKC850 control box (check the Yamaha website for more details) . Depending on the model of Disklavier, you can achieve the same functionality as the current Disklavier E3 series. (Although the accuracy of low volume playback will not be as good as the current pianos)

Hi Crawford,
If it is a MK ll as long as the disk drive is working and the display is working. you can play midi files into the midi in and it should play the piano you can also plug it up to a DKC-850 using the midi in and midi out ports.
