Does anyone happen to know what the 2 RCA jacks (Blue and Green) next to the cable connector on the back of the DKC850 are used for? Manual and support website don't seem to have any references. I'm looking for another potential audio-output option and hope these are extra audio out jacks. Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon, everyone. The DKC-850 is outwardly identical to the DKC-800. The DKC-850, of course, is a retrofit control unit for various models of older Disklaviers. The DKC-800 is the control unit for the E3 Disklavier, a model that Yamaha currently manufactures. In both cases, there is a group of 3 ports labeled "TO PIANO." One port requires a 15-pin connector that is outwardly similar to VGA connector (note: it's internal wiring may be different). The other two ports are RCA ports that are colored blue and green. The DKC-850 uses the 15-pin connector to connect the control unit to the piano itself. The blue and green RCA ports are not used. The DKC-800 does not use the 15-pin connector but instead uses the blue and green RCA ports for the same general purpose. I don't know why the two boxes are outwardly identical. Their menus are nearly identical but have some differences that are specific to the different models of Disklavier to which they are connected. Perhaps an economy of scale was achieved by manufacturing two different control boxes in this identical or nearly identical fashion. NOTE: RCA connectors are for analog stereo audio usually colored red (right channel) and white (left channel). RCA connectors for composite video are yellow. RCA connectors for component video are green (Y), blue (Pb/Cb), and red (Pr/Cr). Of course there are many other uses for RCA connectors and a variety of colors have been used to denote their purpose. My Mark IV uses these same Blue & Green RCA connectors on an expansion PC type card slot in the "I/O center". They each have heavy duty RCA cables connected to them which I traced back to the "Central Signal Processor" interface located on the other side of the piano (or under the tribble end of the piano.) The "Advance Operating Manual" doesn't exactly say what Green & Blue jacks are used for other than "To Piano" and that it accepts the cords from the "Central Signal Processor". (It says cords not chords) Perhaps they are on the DKC-850 for connectivity to a Mark IV -- such as an I/O center replacement. But given that they are heavy duty and shielded I believe it's some sort of signal - maybe timing information from the keyboard used for recording playback. -Ken --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, "kassey22000" <kassey22000@...> wrote:
