Yamaha G1 with DKC55 Controller plus DCD1 CD Player

Yamaha G1 with DKC55 Controller plus DCD1 CD Player

2012-09-06 by Jim

I just purchased a Yamaha G1 Grand piano with a DKC55 Controller and a DCD1 Player. Can anyone tell me if it can be upgraded to record and if midi voices can be added. There were no owner's manuals for either unit and I would like to know if they are available. I am also missing the remote for the DCD1 CD player and would like to get one. It is a wonderful piano and sounds great. Thank-You for any help that you can give me. Jim

It seems that the DKC55 is sometimes associated with playback only disklaviers as in this page:
 http://usa.yamaha.com/support/software/

But maybe not... For the dcd1 I can find only the product page with a downloadable brochure:
http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/disklaviers/grand_pianos/dcd1/?mode=model

You could try to contact the yamaha uk disklavier support service they would know and they are very efficient (link for email):
http://uk.yamaha.com/en/support/contacts/

Also an operating manual for playback only units which mentions in it the DKC55:

http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/piano/english/dkv/DKVMK3Play_e_XY334A0_01.pdf
 and

http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/piano/english/dkv/DKVMK3Play_e_XY334A0_02.pdf

Good luck !

All playback only models have no key or hammer sensors, so they will never be able to record. To fit such a piano with sensors and the rest of the electronics would cost you more than just buying another Disklavier which has the record function.

The DCD1 will have the full set of XG voices, so you can play back all standard MIDI files. You cannot load up any other voices.

Also, to make sure that the piano play back reasonably accurately, you need to make sure that your tuner checks the regulation frequently.

Re: [disklavier] Re: Yamaha G1 with DKC55 Controller plus DCD1 CD Player

The DCD1 has no XG voices. It is purely a CD->MIDI and audio playback device. The MIDI sounds are provided by the device it is connected to, but it cannot play CDs with MIDI data on (only those encoded with Pianosoft plus Audio data and PRS/QRS data in older formats). However, the new DKC850 has the full suite of XG voices.

Ohhps, you're right. But with a laptop and decent sequencing software, you can still use the laptop as a sound source (XG tone generators haven't moved on that much in the last few years), which will work out cheaper than a DKC850 (depending on what software you pick) and would be more versatile (if a bit more complicated).
