What's a *.fil file?

What's a *.fil file?

2001-09-18 by bigfun1@entermail.net

Under FILES, NEW AGE, Brickman.zip unzips several files to a F*.fil.
What is a fil and how does it play on a Disklavier?

They are dislavier's native E-SEQ format files. All disklaviers play these disks, but some older ones don't support midi files. There is a utility package called dkvutil in the files section, that will allow you to freely convert between eseq, midi 0 and midi 1.

A .fil file is a Yamaha MIDI file in ESEQ format that your computer can see.
If you were to take a regular Yamaha Pianosoft disk and put it into your
computer, you would not be able to see any files. If you used the free
DKVutil program available from the vault, DKVcopy, the disk would not only
have the copy protection scheme removed, but each song on the disk would be
visible as a .fil file. You could further use the DKVutil program,
ESEQtoMID to convert these .fil files to standard MIDI files, .mid Once you
have your .mid file, you can stack them into play lists, edit the volume or
print out the sheet music for the file. Programs that do this are called
sequencer programs and can be bought for as little as $29 for Pro Audio
Tracks 7.0 from www.pgmusic.com. Another program that is free on the
DKVutil is Velocet for editing the volume of a MIDI file.
