It all depends on what you wanna do with a synth. I started buying synth to do noises but ALSO soundtracks. I'd have been very disapointed if my first choice had been a sidstation, the lovely box being pretty minimalistic as for as expression goes, blame the mono output and the one midi channel :-). If you're looking for a wide field of sounds and ambience, I would not advice a sidstation for a first buy. NOW- the machine sells fast and as for as bleeps are concerned, the Sid rules the world as for as I know (but I just discovered Nanoloop and for very less money you get pretty good shit too, hehe). I'm so glad i got it and would trade it for nothing. You get much more attached to it. Let's say my JP8000 is a dog, the sidstation would be a mogwai. You know ? But that's sentimental shit. Just know that sidstation is a mono synth, with one voice (but very rich one) for midi. If you feel it's enough for a first buy, then go ahead. If you're only into bleeps and bleep sequencing, this is the shit. Absolutely. 303 is fun. SidStation is very very more fun although you'll have to tweak it little more to get your ears bleeding. SidStation is 303 for very demanding musicians and noise makers and stupid stupid musicians too. Right.
