Re: I wanna get in sync!

2005-02-23 by Charles Choc, Jr.

I don't use Live, but I do occaisionally sync up my hardware with
logic. The easiest setup would probably be to use Live as your master
sync. I'm assuming that you have some sort of midi module that you can
connect to your computer. Direct Live to send its midi clock through
whichever midi-out port you desire. Connect a midi cable to this port
and to the midi-in on your machinedrum. Adjust the global settings of
your machine drum to use an external midi clock by entering your
global settings--select 'tempo in' and set this to 'external,' and set
'control in' to 'on.' Then connect a midi cable to the Machinedrum's
midi-thru port to the midi-in port on your G2. This, in effect,
bypasses the Machinedrum and sends along the same midi clock info. to
another piece of gear. This is the basic procedure for syncing up
several pieces of gear to one master unit. I have no experience with
this gear (the G2), but I imagine that the procedure would be very
similar to any other synth--find your way to 'system settings' or
'global settings' and adjust whether or not to sync using its external
clock or an external clock, and decide whether or not you want to
enable control messages. This should work, though you might have to
tinker with midi channel settings on your devices. If in doubt,
consult your manual for the G2. This sort of setup works for me when I
sync up my MPC and my Indigo 2 and my Oberheim-1000 to my Machinedrum
(one of its many bragging points is its precise internal midi clock).
There are probably several configurations that would work, but this (I
think) would be the easiest. Hope this helps. Please correct me where
I am wrong, oh all-knowing and all-seeing Elektron community. :)

important... to this issue, at least) - an Elektron Machinedrum and a
Clavia G2. I'd like the both of them to sync. That wouldn't be a
problem if I didn't also use Live as a sequencer, 'cause I'd like them
to sync to that as well.

any other sequencer) is the center of attention? Please fill me in!
