machinedrum in a rock context

2005-07-22 by andyklug

I've been leaning towards getting a machinedrum for awhile
now... probably the primary reason I haven't yet is my concern
whether it will work in my music, which is rock music with a bit of
a radiohead/experimental side to it. Generally I do go for a more
artificial drum sound, but more in the vein of trashy samples than
synthetic electronic sounds... that just blends with guitars a little
better.

I really enjoy listening to the mp3s that members post here, but
I've noticed that almost all of them (if not literally all of them) are
pure electronic music. Is anyone out there using a
machinedrum in a more pop or rock setting where it has to blend
in with guitars, pianos, vocals, etc., and how does it work for
that? Or even if you don't make that kind of music, I'm interested
in your take on it as you're familiar with the instrument.

If I get a MD now it would certainly be a UW as I would definitely
make use of the sampling capabilities, but I would be pretty
disappointed with it if I was using mostly for sampling and not for
synthesis, since that seems to be where it is most flexible (along
with the sequencer, which is obviously appealing in its own
right).

Thanks...
