I agree completely. One particular area I would like to see reevaluated is song mode. IMO the great thing about MD and MnM OSes is how quickly I am able execute my ideas using supercopy and parameter locks, trigless trigs. BUT when I get my parts written and I'm ready to block them out- Song mode forces me to think much differently because I don't have the LEDs as visual cues, and because I have to have graph paper handy to figure out offsets, etc and to make sure my MD 32 beat parts end up evening out with my MnM parts, etc. Song mode works well- but I just don't feel I can be too creative linking parts together. If I were able to have the MnM or MD "record" pattern chaining and track mutes- and could then go into song mode and edit the song I created afterwards that would be a whole new world for me. I imagine a situation in which I could turn something like a "song draft" mode on... record the chaining of a few parts save that as a song. Fix any screw ups or lengthen or shorten parts in song mode. Cut back to "song draft" mode and add some more, etc. The real strength of Elektron's gear is the UI. I feel empowered when I am writing parts and a bit shackled when Im putting them together. > I don't really what's possible in the OS without hardware upgrades but > *if* the price was *right* i would certainly consider paying for > upgrades which gave us new machines (or extensions of existing > machines eg the FM ones) for both of them. I'd rather see a move to user upgradeable parts on future machines- a part of the product I could open up myself and put a new eprom or something in. That would be much better than having to fedex my toys all over and worry about them not making it back before gigs, etc.
