ot: Midi Vomiting Problem

2006-03-23 by secret monkey bits

hallo there.

i have this weird problem (i think it's weird, but i'm sorta a
midiot) where something in my pc daw is sending out random midi data.

going into my pc is a Yamaha UX256, a usb 6x6 midi interface, a
MidiMan Oxygen 8 usb keyboard controller and a MOTU 828mkII (the
firewire input also carries one midi channel).

the only one of those that i am using as a midi interface is the
UX256, which has a Korg ms2000r, a Electron SidStation, a DSI Evolver
and a Korg Electribe MX-1 that each have there own in and out midi
port. none of them are chained together.

even when I don't have Sonar open (the sequencer i use), sometimes
i'll see the led display window on the Oxygen 8 start changing
values. like, it will run up and down thru a number range. and i've
only noticed it when Sonar is open, but sometimes the pitch will
start being adjusted up and down randomly on my Korg EMX-1. and when
i record midi tracks into Sonar, sometimes there will be controll
data recorded that i was not manipulating.

anybody have any ideas about what's going on in my setup?

thanks much,
