Re: [elektron] Question from new MD in Barcelona

2002-01-27 by mizatch

Hi everyone! Nice to see so much movement already.
I just got my MD and I have some questions for you:
1- Does your MD have a lot of floor noise compared to other gear in
your studios?
Yes, it is really high. i think s/n on MD is about 40db! it is not so bad
if you track everything in in one go, but start recording things in one by
one and gets really terrible. once my alt outs actually are useable (see
next question) i will have to gate everything when multitracking. Just
pretend you're working at studio one or maurizio's ;-)

2- Has anyone found out the reason for those strange noises coming
from the main out (A+B), like if there was a CD player starting
inside the MD...
YES. I have spoken to them about this, and they are looking into it, but
don't know what it is, as i think i was the first person to complain about
it. I cannot use any of the alt outs, they have this annoying sound on all
of them and if i send a sound to C, D will have the sound as well! even with
nothing else assinged to it. try this and tell me if your problem is same as
mine; take a loudish, long decaying sound, with pan at 0, now slowly pan it
left or right....is the sound there now? and the farther you take the sound
from 0 the longer the predelay between the sound and the artifacts......

3- How do you compensate for the gain difference from main out
comparing to any other single out. In my MD the same sound playing
from main out(A+B) or just A or just C, has around 10 db difference.
Do you compensate with the eq gain?

You don't have artifact sounds on these outputs? that is very strange then,
does anyone else have alt outs with unwanted noise/artifacts on them
whenever a drum assigned to them is triggered?

4- Has anyone tryed to slave Logic with the MD(as master)? In my case
Logic tempo goes nuts and finnaly after a while it de-syncs, kind of
crashs.

i have been doing this a lot with cubase, and it works great, but timing is
as loose (like 4bpm quick jumps up and down) w MD as master as with it as
slave.......too bad.
