Elektron Musical Instruments

I'm trying to make a software drum machine which will controll the 
sidstation in "asid" mode from max. Its pretty hard for a beginner 
project, but I think understand the controll registers so i think i 
know whats going on..

Anyway.. I'm wondering how the sidstation compensates for the midi 
status bit. Does it simply stick the 8th bit in the next register?

Anybody?
