Elektron Musical Instruments

Hi all,

was wondering if any of you PC racers out there could help me with 
this: 
The Machinedrum really shows how cool FM sounds can be, but the other 
day I realised how cool it would be to have an even more advanced FM 
drum synth!
So this is my idea: Making a PC "programming console" for the Yamaha 
TX81Z FM module (which is 8 voice, 8-part multitimbral, and cheap! 
:)). Sort of a software version of the old Jellinghaus DX 
programmer.... Is this what you call an "environment"? How do I go 
about making one of these? What possibilities are there? I know very 
little about PCs.... and would be very grateful for any help!
