I don¹t want this to turn into a Mac vs. PC flamewar, as there are already plenty of those on the net, so I will be brief. Logic is soon to be a Mac only application. For that reason alone, it makes perfect sense for Logic to use AudioUnits over VST. *AudioUnits are very well documented, making it easy for developers to create plug-ins Any coders out there ever try to find documentation for creating a VST host? There isn¹t any. *AudioUnits are integrated at the OS level, which exponentially increases the market for plug-in developers. Now the same plugin I use in Logic X can potentially be used in Final Cut Pro, Peak, Premiere any application that wishes to call an AudioUnit plug-in. *According to most programmers out there, it will not be difficult to port VST plug-ins to the AU format, or at least create an AU/VST wrapper. This, of course, leaves Windows users out in the cold, because Logic will no longer support VST on the Windows platform. However, Logic won¹t remain on the Windows platform much longer anyway, as Emagic has announced that they will no longer develop for it. With that said, Windows users can certainly keep using VST plug-ins in their other apps, while Mac users will get to enjoy the benefits of a new plug-in format on the OS X platform. As a Mac user and with developers such as NI, Ohmforce already announcing development of AU plugs I am very excited about the shift from VST. Cheers. -brent _______________________________________________ W. Brent Latta :-: wbl@...
