  I had this problem starting about two weeks after I got my MD.  I 
had, at that point, never used the audio inputs.

  Eventually, the screen totally faded and I couldn't see anything.  
So I opened it up and adjusted the contrast.  And ever since then 
(six months?  a year?  I can't remember how long it's been), no 
problems at all.
