Hi, While I was programming around with MD other day, I thought why not try to recreate some old fart machines with it. I had some 808/909 samples on harddrive and I thought give it a shot. I fount it very interesting trying to get the sound extacly right. I think I have a better ear for drumsounds after that. I nailed the BD's pretty good and 808 snare, but on some sounds like 909 snare where much harder to program. Also something like cowbell, was very difficult, I thought it would be easier. I know there must better programmers there and I would like to see how you would approach the challenge. Thats why I put up this challenge on net! Here are the rules: Go to this page: http://www.pixelem.fi/muut/md/ You'll find the original wav files and the md wav files. You can also take the tr-kit in sysex file. Some of them are good mimics and some bad. Your job is to make better emulations. You can only use MD (isn't that clear?). There are also some original wav's that I haven't done. Maybe you can do better? You can then send your attemps to create perfect emulation to me as small wav. I'll put them up. Remember: also tr-kit, so everyone can have cool tr-sounds if they want. What do you say guys? Hit your MD on and let's make some cool programming!! After I've got some stuff from you and I've put them up, we will decide which are the best (don't know how yet...). Prize could be that everyone who joined this, could send some cool kits to winner as sysex. Toni. ps. by the way, I believe that these are original sounds have been compressed quite a bit, but doesn't matter. We've got compressor on md. pps. I decided to make this 808/909 challenge just because everyone knows those machines, right? I've got some other vintage drummachine sounds also, which we could try later, if this is a good idea. By the way I'm not 808/909 fanatic, you can make a lot more interesting sounds on md, but it's easier for the programming challenge.
