You can make sounds that fill the same sonic range and have stringlike qualities using the 
Sid, but don't try to make something that sounds like an actual string instrument. As for 
percussion, it can do some great aggressive hits and such. My best experiences with the Sid 
have been when I'm letting it lead me in some direction, just turning knobs and making 
adjustments until I get something that sounds cool, rather than shooting to emulate a real-life 
instrument.
