Elektron Musical Instruments

Yet another question from a possible futur owner.
There's one thing i find interesting with the Electribe (Es-1) is the
way you can Gate different steps of an incoming signal when 
running a sound thru the audio inputs. Like if you play a vocal 
track, it cuts / stutters on steps not selected. 
Can you do this with the MachineDrum or  does it affect the entire 
incoming signal ?
