The problem, as far as I can see:

The 'input machine' is connected to a VCO  and loaded with a gate to 
envelope the amplitude.
The loaded gate has a sidechain that is only connected to the gate's input
so there's no way to influence it internally via triggers.
So, what I need is a VCA (which a gate basically *is* ) to operate the gate I 
loaded
to control the VCO which makes no sense 'cos if I *had* a VCA I would not 
need the gate
anymore ...

To have a sequencer triggered and controlled gate is the only gate I need on 
a percussion sequencer.
What sense does a gate on a sequencer make when you can't trigger it?
