So given the Evolver's problem, the best that you can do is program the program change one step before you want it to *actually* change. BUT that only works if you have no Evolver sounds playing on that step. You could use a non-step sequencer to program the program change, though...<<< there was another trick posted to the Evolver list that makes for a nice workaround. I'm treading into OT territory by mentioning this on the MD list, but since I am using the two together as well, I thought this insight might help: what I often do is program 4 different but realted melodies on the 4 sequencer "tracks" in the Evolver. I will assign them by the regular Seq slots to modulate any parameter *not* related to the pitch of the oscs... I then use one of the free Mod slots, assign Dest to OAF (pitch of all oscs), amount to 99 (or less, if you wish) and use Source to change between SE1-SE4 in real time. this allows one to change the Evolver sequence without having to change the patch. obviously if you're trying to jump to a completely different type of sound on the Evolver, this won't work. but if you were programming multiple patches based on the same sounds but with different sequencer melodies, this technique might provide a workaround for you. I'm quite enjoying it myself. keeping in mind that I'm not trying to spam my music, here is a link to a track I worked on last night which uses this technique. drums are MD (with Lexicon PCM-81 reverb), the sort-of-melodic parts are the Evolver (through Sony DPS-V77 effects) using the technique I describe above. the "periodic" backround stuff is a Nord Modular patch (no FX), also clocked to the MD. the link: http://zebox.com/cgi-bin/artists/dl.cgi?spectralab_-_intoxication_manslaughter_-_edit.m3u+qp+m3 this piece was recorded live to 2-track... the Evolver did not change patches once during the recording/performance. hopefully this helps somewhat. not to minimize the hope that Dave will properly sort out the Evolver, but at least a very reasonable (and fun) workaround in the meantime... cheers, kevin ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca
