Sure; start with a GND-SN, use lots of decay to make a nice long
sound, and tweak away. You should be able to get some string-like
sounds.

Strings like this!
Check this out : get a impulse , send it to an external output such
as C , connect the output directly into an inputmachine , give both ,
pulse and inputmachine delay (short 1 till 20 will work) now you got
a phioscal modelled string sound , based on the karlpluss strong
algohritm, good luck ! Cheerz LecZ

I have a Pelican case for my SP-808 sampler and it's very nice. I
haven't sized up which would be right for the MD, but I highly
recommend them. Basically check out the website for dimensions, each
case has little foam squares that you remove so you can fit anything
from a camera to a machinedrum nice and snug. -Scott

i already tried using the gnd-sn a lot, but i always end up with
kind of "bell"-type fm sounds, or some weird "rocket scientist"
elektro tones...
please check out the Sarpsborg Tune on the elektron Website..that
track was made by nils odegaard..
It amazing how those strings sound, and i would really like to
recreate them.
a long time ago he stated in this forum, that the efm set is the key
to this, but when i use it, i just get belltype fm sounds, but not
string like sounds.
any other ideas?
greetz,
Steril

Use the lfo:s for adding more string like envelopes. Go for the
reverse lfos:s, apply them to filter width and such. Use the eq to
emulate the resonant frequencies of the violin body.

I have a Pelican 1500 model case that cost me $80 US. The MD fits in like a
champ and the thing is *solid*.

I make alot of synth sounds with the sampler machines. I forget the
3 letter name for it. Just turn up the retriger. Adjust pitch for a
kind of filter effect, maybe phasing. Use trigger time for note
pitch. Add a little start. Adjust decay to your liking. I remember
using bass drum. I think the higher sounding drum samples may be
more string like. Delay does not sound so good.
You may want to try to use the multi trigger possibility to make more
strings. Copy the same lead type sound and have one trigger maybe
two for a more chord sound. Adjust pitch.
