Elektron Musical Instruments

I jsut recently got a MachineDrum, and have really been loving it (even more
than I thought that I would).  On the whole, I think it's really intuitive,
and is perhaps the most immediately creative piece of equipment in my setup.
I'm running into some trouble (well, not really trouble) on the dynamix
section, however.  Getting compression right has never really been my strong
suit, and more often than not, I rely upon tweaks of presets in compressors
to get what I want out of a certain part.  I was wondering if anybody knows
of any resources for tips on where to start with the dynamics section, or
barring that, any advice directly on the process that people use for getting
their drums to sound appropriately snappy or thick or whatever.
Additionally, if you have any settings that you've found to be really useful
for any particular texture, by all means, share.  I mix through a Yamaha
01v, if the mixer's dynamics section has any pertinent ramifications upon
strategies.  If there's already been a discussion of this, I apologize.
