Drumsounds like Björk and Radiohead and a lot of other bands use depend a lot on distortion. I also use distortion to get sounds more into the mix (like the TDM plugin Lo-fi for ProTools). You don't have to use it extreme all the time, but just to get the 'clean' edge out of a sound. Distortion would definitely make it 2001 worthy!..
