hello, I own a nordmodular and a sid amongst others and I am very happy with the setup, it enables me to do all the sounds I want. I4ve been quite an analog arse for some years but I wanted to explore the digital domains as well and now I only have digital stuff in the studio but I trick people anyway if I want. the sid can be used to do lots of things, basses, leads, rhytmic stuff etc. If you want the sound to be more direct i.e more punch then just dial up the internal freq to 200 , otherwise the sound might be too offbeat. I have been comparing the too (which is quite idiotic) but looking at it from a sounddesigners point of view, these beasts can do quite similar stuff if you start with the sid and then start to build on the NM, the BIG difference is that you have this absolutely gorgeous sid feeling over it, sometimes I think it sound like an unstable old weird synth. It4s like a random machine at some points. I4m NOT saying a NM can sound like a Sidstation, you can program a NM a little like a sid but you will be missing the whole point of the oscillators, filter and wavetable. When the envelopes open up , aahh !! Don4t you see ?? It wants to communicate ! a great addition to any studio! erase Get FREE Email/Voicemail with 15MB at Lycos Communications at http://comm.lycos.com
