guidelines for SID's audio input?

2001-01-28 by Dr. Whammo

Hey guys, maybe you can help... I have a fear of using the audio input on
the SID because Im not sure how much "juice" it can take. I tend to make
pretty wild and crazy music, and I like the way my moog's resonance can make
your ears bleed - somehow I feel apprehensive about patching it through the
SID because of this. I mean, that self-oscillating filter can get LOUD and
PEIRCING. Every time I push it to the max, my roomate gets antsy that his
amp is gonna blow, and I feel the same way when I patch it through my PC.

Can anyone give me some kind of guidelines in the way of maximum frequency
hz or db range that the SID input can accomodate before reaching a "danger
zone"?

Another cool Idea to control the "feedback input volume" would be to do it
with AUX on your mixer.
I think I\ufffdll try that version, because I want to know how it sounds, when
other sounds
come in the feedback-mix too.

You might get a slightly different, more phasing-like effect, from routing
through a sampler though. If the audio is going through AD/DA-conversion
there is a slight delay. This is probably also very cool, but I think it
would differ from the direct feedback I mentioned. This only gives a
different (more distinct with more resonance) filter characteristics.
