noisy MD

2004-10-24 by Rui Peixoto

well, dont know if this will do anything but my MD has always been noisy.
Not noticeable when youre playing a full pattern but when youre recording
one single track at the time youll hear it buzz quite loud. Especially with
delicate sounds that dont fill in the full spectrum.

Not to mention if you want to compress the signal, then it becomes
unbearingly loud. I usually gate the outputs before the comp. Its the only
way. Not perfect but its a workaround.

I really never understood how no one else seemed to notice it...

I remember some complains on the list coming in from time to time,
either it's set up originated, or it's only certain MDs, or only
certain use of the MD…

Have you tried changing the different volumes (individual or master) to
see if it's not the MD amp getting noisy when driven too hard? It can
be a track to follow…

As I don't have a MD anymore I can't try myself (poor little misery me
:(

I just turn the gain down on my mixer until the noise is inaudible. I
put the sliders on the 0db line and turn the gains down to where I
can't hear the noise.

The hiss is gone and the MD is still punchy and loud. I've also
noticed the gains for the MD are much lower than my ms2000.
