Hi !

is there a way to mute/unmute tracks via MIDI
from an external sequencer?

Just send it a CC to zero it's volume, silly.

Well,

I just want to mute/unmute them,
not to put the volume of the track to zero, silly.

The difference is that when you mute a track
the tone-decay fades out and is not cut off hard.

I think you can send a message on controller number 3 to mute tracks on and off. Value of 127 mutes the track. Value of 0 turns it back on. A least thas how it works with my MPC. Hope it helps.

I thought that the global->map editor->trig setting would let you
mute tracks. there's three options there: gate, start and que. I
thought
that at one time, I had gotten the gate to work where if you sent it
the note assigned to that track, it gated (muted) the track from
playing while the note was held. But upon trying this just now, it
appears that all three trig options do the same thing. Or maybe
I had some setting screwed up in the keyboard I was using to
send the notes....

Anyway, try that out because I'm sure I had it working at one
time and thought that it was quite cool. Oh, this is a feature
of the new OS (1.19c), by the way.

ive tried your proposals now,
unfortunately I didnt get it to work:

@Brian Siu:
I have an MPC too.
What Midi channel do you use for the track the controller message is on?

@Joseph Melnyk:
Couldnt find what you described.
OS1.19c does not exist for the MonoMachine.
Latest OS MnM: 1.04
Latest OS MD: 1.12

Latest OS MD is actually 1.19c. Its link is hidden just below the
1.12 download button on the elektron MD support page:

http://www.machinedrum.com/files/SPS1_119c_syx.zip

Probably won't help you any... but it's worth the download if you're
with MD.
