what 's this about? scott has been working on a forum several weeks
and now this one pops out of the blue... I've been helping Scott with
graphics and don't know how I feel about all this. So our work (that
was well advertised on this list) has been for nothing?

Don't worry, the site we are working on is a community hub that will
offer many features, and will be around for a long time. It's okay if
there are several forums on the Web. Options are good!

What? We have 2 forums now? I get a feeling that you and scott were
first one to start work and now this one is done by someone else (who
may have 'got the idea from you guys'. If this is the case, then I say
it's really a bad move from devilfish.

I've been posting here in yahoo-groups for some time and I've cheched
the new blue forum. To it's clear that there can be only one forum
(the other one must go) and yahoo-groups should be closed after people
have decided which forum will be the forum. So, one place to rule them
all.

Elektron should also support this decision by informing people of it
via elektron friend-newsletter and providing a link to new forum.

So what we need now is a practical and rational conversation of the
forum options (I think it should be done here, not in any forum yet).
For a start it would be nice to see what Scott and other people have
created, so we can see how it looks like (and more importantly what
can it do. Contests-submissions? Faqs? so on).

I think forum is the way, yahoo-group can die. I would want to see
options. If Scott's forum is reasonably functional, I would prefer it,
because they started it earlier and have done more communicating to
actual users (asking opinions and such).

So, what do people think?
Toni.

ps. I realize this is very hard conversation to go via e-mails and
such. Stay rational, let's try to avoid flaming, right?

Unless Elektron takes the forum in house, I feel that, with no disrespect to any other forums, that yahoogroups has the inertia of continuity and solidness. I can't see it going away otherwise even there are two or three other forums. Let there be a few and may the best one win over time, features, feel and ultimately, membership rather than votes and, or arbitrary decisions, unless Elektron decides to do that. Even then, anyone can have a forum for anything if they want to.

yahoo groups is a mailing list, not a forum.
It has different rules and works in a different way, so it's probably
going to stay.

Instead of having 2 forums, let's just merge them into one.

I think that devilfish probably didn't know about Scott plans to create
an other community, because only people on the yahoo groups could know
that, and it looks like devilfish wasn't here before.
Let's work in a cooperative way and make it bigger and better :-)

Scott, I understand you're working on a website and not only on a
forum; have you already created the latter?

agreed. work together and merge the good qualities of each plus use the
efforts of everyone to administer the site.

this is true. I had to approve his membership to get his eighteen posts
(informing us of the site) to come through. :-)

so yeah, he probably didn't know about Scott's (very hard) work.

Good thinking.

I understand. Then it's ok by me.

Toni.
