Just some UW thoughts........

Just some UW thoughts........

2005-06-03 by Roonan

I've been thinking about ways to make the best of the 2mb sample
memory and came up with a possibly interesting idea. Not sure if it
works like I think though. It goes a little somehting like this:

Lets say you take a number of one cycle waveforms like the collection
I have from the virus and paste them into one wavefile. Then you'll
get a relative short wave file (128x128samples = 0,34 sec @ 44.1) Lets
say you put in 128 waveforms totall. Then the start position (0-128)
of the sample would be the exact start point of each waveform. The end
position of the sample should be start + 1 and then with retrigg you
should be able to find a perfect sustained sound of that particulair
waveform. This way you have a kind of osc wich you can use pitch on
and envelopes on let's say the filter. In other words, a true synth
machine using only one sample (0,34 sec) and one machine generating
128 waveforms!!! Doesn't that sound nice?

Off course it's all theory and perhaps the numbers are wrong but i'll
sure give it a try when my machine get's updated. (hint, hint, hint
Daniel ;-)

kinda like a wavetable. sounds cool. i'm just happy i will be able to
load my TR505 samples in 12bit, lol... viva lo/fi

this is a really cool idea, roonan! right up my alley. now, if only i
had the $$ for the upgrade!

anyone with/getting the UW willing to try this out?
