August sounds like a long ways off, but it's worth that wait. believe me :-)

The full SPS-1UW product will be in scarce supply at least until the autumn. But we will receive a new shipment soon, then the next substantial one will be some time in August. As suggested before, add your name to the waiting list by pressing the order button for the correct product, sign up your email and you'll get a notice the very second we release more units. No units are reserved for the people who sign though, they just get the early notice. The full upgrades will be offered (at full EUR 500 / USD 500 price, the friend offer is sold out) when we have stock and resources. There might be a handful during the summer (we're not 100% sure yet) and then more to the autumn. It is not sure we will be offering it forever though as it takes alot of service resources to perform them. Daniel, Elektron PS. There are some SidStations up for sale right now!

How did I miss this? I thought that the friend offer was going out in batches of 50 (to prevent too large a backlog), and by my count only the second batch was announced. DAMN, that sucks... I was about to sell a poly-61, DX-11, SY-22, drumulator, and TR-55 just to cover the upgrade price - but I guess I botched this one some how... -gerald On 7/1/05, daniel_elektron <daniel@...> wrote: > > The full upgrades will be offered (at full EUR 500 / USD 500 price, > the friend offer is sold out) when we have stock and resources. I guess Daniel is speaking of full upgrades. No mention here of cutting the friend-upgrade. I mean it's not clear from the Daniel's post. I guess we have to wait and see (or post and ask). Wow, I really hope they offer more Elektron Friend upgrades. I thought the plan was that there would be a total of 200 offered, eventually. Is that right, Daniel? Thanks, Eric On 2 Jul 2005 14:41:19 -0000, elektron-users@yahoogroups.com <elektron-users@yahoogroups.com> wrote:

I dug through the friend emails to see how dumb I should feel about expecting to be notified each time 50 upgrade offers were opened up... here are some clips: FIRST MESSAGE: We will offer up to 200 upgrades at this price. But in order to avoid long service queues we will release the upgrades in turns. As this mail is sent we're kicking off by offering 50 upgrades. 50 more are planned to be offered in two weeks. Only friends registered before today's date will be able to take part in the offer of today. SECOND MESSAGE: As you read this we just made available 50 more upgrade offers for current SPS-1 owners. Last time the 50 upgrade kits offered were sold out in less than 24 hours, so you might better be quick to get one of the upgrades this time! There was no third or fourth messages... and I figured that was due to the backlog and elektron wanting "to avoid long service queues". In fact, since nobody was reporting that they actually got their unit back, I figured they weren't opening up any further slots of 50. Now, I know I'm grumbling and there's nothing I can do - but can sombody in the third or fourth group of 50 tell me how you knew to get in? Did you just keep checking the friend page. Grumble... Somebody *please *let me know on this list when any of the inflated upgrades are offered. -gerald On 7/1/05, Gerald Stevens <logo64@...> wrote: > > How did I miss this? Here is the explanation: The first mail indicated we would offer _up to_ 200 upgrades at the friends price. We started with 50 promising 50 more in 2 weeks. The first 50 sold out more or less immediately and indicated an ongoing interest in the offer. Then we released 50 more a bit more than 2 weeks later. The offer was up for almost 2 weeks and then sold out by us offering units to the Japanese and France markets. Friend offers are intended for the brave first people who dare to try a new product without knowing too much about it. During this unknown time our impression is that everyone who wanted had a good chance of placing an order. The second offer didn't really sell out, only almost. Therefore we decided that there is no need for another friend offer. The demand might have increased now, but that's because the first daring people have received their units back and been able to give detailed reports on what they think about the UW upgrade. The situation is no longer that ordering an upgrade is getting something partly unknown. It's like someone posted on the elektron-users board when the second round was offered: "do we really know enough about the sps-1uw to order the upgrade?". No, that's a part of the point with the friend offers, we offer a discount for people daring to take a chance. The friend offer was closed since the second round appeared to cover the markets need (for an unknown upgrade). The upgrades are very time consuming and we are now tiding up so that everyone who dug into the offer receives their unit and are happy. When that is done we will offer upgrades for some time at EUR/USD 500. I don't know for how long we will offer it, it depends how much resources it will consume. We hope to be able to offer the first "official" ones during the summer, and it will be posted on the Elektron products page as a product, or maybe as accessory for the SPS-1. I'm sorry if people were waiting for upcoming offers. The post could indeed be interpreted that way. The post probably should have pointed out that the offer was valid _up to_ 200 units (it did), but emphased that it would only be offered as long there is a current interest. Remember that if you want a friend offer, try taking advantage of it the soonest possible. We'll never make any promises for how long the offers will be valid. Fair enough. I should point out that my hesitation was not due to a lack of confidence that the upgrade would be worth it, but due to the scary track-record of the tech in CA that would be doing the servicing. I wasn't about to send him my MD without first hearing that he had indeed found the time in his life to perform servicing in a reasonable amount of time. Since I hadn't heard many people in the US say that they got their MD back, I was really worried - and the people who said it had been a month and a half really scared me into waiting for the next 50. Had I lived in Sweden, I would have been one of the first to sign up - I trust Elektron. I may learn to trust the US-elektron guy, and I'm sympathetic to his tales of hardship, but I wasn't about to be a test-case. -gerald On 7/8/05, daniel_elektron <daniel@...> wrote: > > > Here is the explanation: > > Friend offers are intended for the brave first people who dare to try > a new product without knowing too much about it. Just for the record. The US tech in Los Angeles turned my around in 10 days. Gerald Stevens wrote:

Mine went out on May 24th, and I'm still waiting for it to come back... :-( I had the encoder and noise patch applied at the same time also. cheers ripe ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frank Moreno" <hhlg@...> To: <elektron-users@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Friday, July 08, 2005 7:43 PM Subject: Re: [elektron] UW - not available!! > > Just for the record. What is this encoder and noise patch? I just ordered a SPS-1UW. The first batch of MDs had some issues that were fixed later, so the UW and current MD should be fine. You had to send back your MD to get the fixes applied so I held off until now, so I got everything done at once. cheers ripe ----- Original Message -----
