has anyone ever heard of a device like the sidstation that uses POKEY chips (some atari computers used em, (800, 400, et al...) and they are capable of some pretty cool sounds in their own wright, especially when you make them do things they arent supposed to. i could have sworn i saw something like this circa 1996, but maybe i just dreamed it? i know theres at least 1 synth-tracker maker for gameboy (nanoloop.com), does anybody know of any other videogame system hacks like this? (i recall that the intellivision made some cool sounds, and of course the venerable atari 2600 did.) rs

Texas Instrument designed a chip called SN76477 in the 70's, and there are numerous project (well, a few anyway)on the web for building machines around this chip. It really hase some interesting features i must say... Is was design to be used in games and toys as a soundeffect generator! The same chip is used in the product "DARK STAR CHAOS", so you can buy it readymady aswell. Althou the dARKSTART dosn't even seem to hald 10% of the features that exist in this chip! Also, a project called DROID in soon ready in Denmark, a small syntheziser wich can be used for making absolutley stunning sunds.. and... anything you'd like! You totally have to check it out on http://www.droid.dk ! Roberth http://www.skomm.net (Listen to our music now!)

Wow, that is a cool sounding machine. Are you part of the development team
or did you just stumble upon it? At only $200 it seems to have some definet
potential. The only part that concerned me was the inability to save patchs,
which would seem to make this an impossible device for live use.

No i'm not involed in anyway... i acually stumbled upon it! And i heard some sounds from the earlier prototypes... and i instantly understood that i needed a machine like that. Issn't it possible to dump via sysex or anything? i godda check it out. If tehre is no possibility for that then i will get it anyway, and sample stuff from it! Roberth
