Monomachine joystick?

Monomachine joystick?

2005-09-14 by andyklug

Can the monomachine joystick be fully substituted with an
external controller (particularly in the case of the tabletop MM)?
For example, could I use the X-Y pad on a Roland V-synth to
emulate the joystick, including recording joystick movement as
part of a Monomachine pattern? Can the tabletop MM save
joystick assignments as part of the patch even though it doesn't
have a joystick?

(Hopefully the questions make sense, as I'm not entirely sure
how the joystick is set up to work in the broad scheme of things
on the MM)...

Thanks...

afaik, the vsynth's timetrip pad {and hey, use the d-beams,
they're there for a reason} wouldn't be joystick
"replacement" - just a controller that outputs whatever CC
messages you assign {look at the manual to see what CC you'd
want to map to}, and the monomachine would respond to it
accordingly.

the MnM joystick is set up to use pitchbend for left/right movement
and CC #1 (modulation) for upwards vertical movement and CC #2
(breathe controller) for downards vertical movement. so if your VSynth
can be set up to send movements in this way from it's X-Y pad, then yes
it will work.

the point is that you can replace the joystick entirely. the Korg
microKontrol
for example has a joystick that can be set up to behave exactly like the
SFX6 joystick.

the MnM does not record joystick movements at all, regardless of
which version you have.

and for what its worth, the two have the exact same OS. so there's
really
no functional difference between them and what can or cannot be done
with either.
