silent userwave

2005-11-02 by niall munnelly

one of my friends bought a userwave yesterday. after some
time playing, he lost all sound. after two factory resets,

1. multiple kits/patterns were played, using both ROM and
synthesis machines

2. we've verified that everything is going out through the
main outs

3. we've tried individual track hits {ie tapping the
triggers}

and, while all the expected lights blink, there's simply no
sound coming out of the headphone outs. he hasn't had a
chance to try the main A/B outs through a mixer, but will do
so tonight. the sps1-uw currently runs os 1.30. all of the
self-tests check out as OK. yeah, he's also tried multiple
pairs of headphones.

is this behaviour familiar to anyone?

Eeek. Maybe as a test try playing sounds on it from another device via midi

Check your settings to make sure that local control is on.

It blinks, so it makes sounds. Turn up the main volume! :)

After a factory reset there is no reason it should not make any sound.
Otherwise I'd suggested to try another machine, like the noise
machine, or trx-bd etc...

A/B is a mirror of the headphone outs. So unless a cable is loose
inside there should be no difference.

yep, those were the first things i'd tried, thinking it
might be an issue with the rom machines. no dice =\

that makes sense, though i thought there might be a
headphone preamp.

i think he's going to swap it out for another one at nova,
if they can keep the userwaves in stock. after two or three
hours of userwave bliss, he's hooked!

of course, _my_ uw works like a charm, and i miss no
opportunities to gloat =)

Sure, but it's a strange thing to break. To my knowledge it has never
happened. It is indeed to try the A/B out first. I have no idea what
can have gone wrong, I haven't heard of a siilar issue. It does indeed
sound like an outboard problem, but if he know what he's doing I
assume he's tried all obvious things first/

They should have a healthy stock afaik.

Very flattering to hear! :)
