MD OS 1.30b and Scrolling bug

MD OS 1.30b and Scrolling bug

2006-03-18 by monads

I don't know if this documented or just something up with my MD. But ever since I got my
MD UW upgraded unit back I noticed I cannot scroll the sound selection wheel very fast
because the LED on tracks seem to go in weird/reverse directions. Same with tempo, if I try
to turn the wheel fast to get to a faster BPM the BPM appears to go faster then slower then
faster. I can never reach 300BPM because it goes 250, 280, 273, 284, 279, etc. Not that I'd
want to go that fast but what's up with this? Or I'll use the wheel to scroll to an MD machine
real fast but then get a stuttering effect on some machines. Mind you there's no problems if I
turn the sound selection wheel slowly. Can somone confirm this on their UW for me?

Mine does not do that, sorry.

I've had the same problem. This is faulty hardware, not software. You've
been using the sound selection wheel too much! :-)

Whatever it is called that the sounds selection wheel is fastened upon
(not really a potentiometer) needs to be replaced. Consider replacing the
rest of the potentiometers too, they might need that too quite soon.

Hey thanks for the update MD users! This seems rather sad since before I sent my unit in
for the upgrade my MD was operating flawless. I get it back and noticed this problem but
lived with it assuming it was normal operation. Going to contact Elektron now.

Try using it regularly for awhile. Mine started doing the exact same
thing when I didn't use the MD for a couple months (shame on me!) but
after using the selection knob a good bit it cleared up. I think
maybe some gunk had just built-up inside and using it a bit worked it
loose.

I noticed it though since I got it back from Elektron and just lived
with it. I've since contacted them and they suggested I use contact
spray to maybe help of which I said no thanks. I'd rather just send
it off and let a qualified technician fix/figure out what's wrong.

Believe it or not,
but the components used on the MachineDrum are very low-cost and not
high quality.
I've had the same issues with my 6 turn wheels and sent it back to sweden.
They fixed it, but I'm not sure when the problems will come again..
It is not good elektron! Use better components! (as you would expect
for a machine of that price)
