I've had the same problem. This is faulty hardware,
not software. 
You've 
been using the sound selection wheel too much! :-)

Whatever it is called that the sounds selection wheel
is fastened upon 
(not really a potentiometer) needs to be replaced.
Consider replacing 
the 
rest of the potentiometers too, they might need that
too quite soon.

I have had similiar problems, and now my machinedrum
is in the shop.

It frustrates me that such central parts of so
excellent and expensive a machine have such short
lifetimes. This is an instrument I plan to play for
decades. and treated properly it should last as long
as a drumset.

It is frustrating when it happens, I've had the same issue with most
of the electronic music gear I've used extensively.

And hey, even drums need to have parts replaced after time.  :)
