MD / MnM & Ableton Live Sync

2006-10-10 by Martin McCready

Hi Guys,

Wondering how those of you that use your elektron machines with Live
find the MIDI sync performance. I guess I just need some advice on
the kind of delay compensation to use. Have tried adjusting the
compensation by various amounts but can never get tight timing, I've
come pretty close however things always start to slip and slide after
a few bars.

I currently have the following MIDI interfaces available: Midisport
2x2, FireWire 410 MIDI I / O & microKontrol MIDI I / O.

I am running Live 6 on an MBP 2.16 GHz 2GB RAM and trying to sync
both SPS-1 & SFX-60, either with Live as the master or the MD.

Any ideas, suggestions or experience with this would be greatly
appreciated.

Cheers,

Martin

Hi Martin - definately run either the MD or MM as master - the clock
reliability is far better than your PC/USB/Firewire can generate
regardless of your setup. I have a page on my site that explains Midi
Clock that might be of interest:

I designed a real-time Sync Shift unit to deal with just the issue you
are running into. The Mark II unit is about 10 days off completion if
you're interested.

All the best.
