someone asked about the audio in's before, and from what i can tell it looks
like they are for routing signals through the MD. takes the input signal
mixes it w/ the MD's signal and sends it to any of the outs you want. i
guess so you can save 2 channls on a mixer? i think the cs1x had a feature
like this...

While this seems to be all  it does for now, they did
mention adding improved audio input machines to
version 1.0 of the OS.  So it's possible in the future
it could be used to route the input signal through the
built in effects, or use the audio inputs as a
modulation source.

They're meant to do more. I haven't tried them yet (I'm still trying out all
these great synth engines... there seems to be no end :-) but I'll send a bigger
report later today. :)
