[Monomachine] Feature Requests

[Monomachine] Feature Requests

2007-05-06 by Niall Munnelly

Hello,

With my quarterly free weekend comes my quarterly feature
request list for the Monomachine. There are some old ones
and new ones, here.

1. Adding a two or three second "live" status to the A-H
banks, as found on the Machinedrum. I really got spoiled by
this, being able to select on a bank+pattern with one hand.
You often have to use two hands with the Monomachine,
because the bank keys are only momentary.

2. A faster way to navigate through pages, especially kits.
Right now, only up and down work. Using the left and right
arrow keys to jump up and down a full page would be a boon
for the Mono and the Machinedrum, too.

3. A record overdub mode, which would be very useful in
polyphonic playback. In mono mode, the sequencer could still
favor the first note struck, but you wouldn't be forced to
enter a chord every time you wanted one. This would be ideal
for creating harmonies and such in polyphonic playback.

4. Trigless trigs in MIDI tracks send note-off.

5. Some kind of panic/all notes off function. Maybe
function + exit/no? In record mode, it sends all notes off
on the armed track, and when record is not enabled, it sends
all notes off on all tracks.

6. Permanently apply transposer values to a track and/or
pattern: shift the notes by however many semitones and reset
traspose to zero.

...and one question - how many notes can one have in a
pattern? How about a step? I hit max notes on two patterns, but they're not
especially busy.

Have you tried [FUNCTION] + [UP/DOWN] ? :)

Also I would like it if Mono would record velocities for the MIDI
notes. And even note length... For the internal tracks it could adjust
hold and decay. Also recording param twists only on the real notes
(the red ones). All this optionally, of course.

Hmm, do you mean that you want the trigless trigs to send note-off? Why?

Yeah, would come handy. Especially when the MIDI tracks do not sent
note-off when muted (which I would really appreciate)

I've been thinking this also. Would come handy.

Maybe we should put a list somewhere so that all these feature
requests would be in one place?

Cheers!

Hey, nice! Thanks! Now we just need it in the MD.

In MIDI tracks, yeah. It's faster and easier than setting note length
values. I should have been more explicit, and said trigless
trigs without parameter locks, to account for CCs. That
might be a lot of work, though.

I know, I found your website when I made a few Google searches
for this feature request list ;)

I thought that hitting STOP twice did this?

Check and see if it does what you're asking for.

Oop, and one more, already sent to support:

Selecting a step in step-record by hitting the appropriate
page and trigger. Saves arrowing left and right.

The trouble with drinking and requesting features is that I
never describe the features correctly. Stop, in MIDI seq
mode, does send all notes off, but it also stops the
sequence, which isn't really ideal if you just want to smack
a misbehaving synth down whilst jamming or playing live.

I like Sampsa's idea of sending all notes off when a MIDI
track is muted; that wouldn't interfere with the sequence,
though I'll have to work up a kludge in my studio to create
that function and see how well it works in practice.

Yeah, that's the way it can be done. However, if you're playing live
and want to send all note off, it's a problem (for obvious reason).
But making the MIDI track mute send note off's would remedy this quite
nicely...

if i press the stop button a couple times I get all notes off
(everything including delays) unless you mean without stopping the seq
