external sequencer with parameter locks

external sequencer with parameter locks

2007-06-21 by gaavir

Hello!!

This is my first post, and i want to thanks you all for the usefull
help that you give to each others. I hope someday i will help too,
although my bad english!

But now, i need to ask know something:

Ive MD and MNM, and i adore both, but im really confused and
surprised about parameter locks. Like Elektron say in the manuals,
the par. locks are a really powerfull instrument to acceed a new
dimansion of sound building, and they are right!!!

But, how can we use they, if we cant send it via MIDI???

I like to build a pattern, and then to play with mutes to build a
song. I use for that the MD or MNM sequencer, but at last, to
finalice the song structure, or to make final corrections, it would
be great to do that in cubase (or other) sequencer.

And I can, but then when i reproduce the midi-traks-recorded-in-
cubase to the elektrons, they (like anounced) dont play the
parameter locks.

I think this would be essential too for record each track
individually, what is needed to make a final good mix.

To make that (record each track individually, with par. locks), we
need to play from the elektrons sequencer, so if we want to build a
song with (for example) mute-variations, we MUST use the mode-song
first.

Its all that right?, or there is another configuration ive not
discover? how du you solve this limitation with parameter locks? Do
the TURBO MIDI from Elektron solve that?

THOUSEND THANKS!!!!

There is not another config that will allow you to do this and it pretty
much will not happen with this version of hardware. Turbo Midi will not
solve that issue.

I record my patterns of each instrument into live and assemble my songs
in there.

OK, thanks.

And how do you record? I supose in this way you must mute the
instruments you are not recording, or do you use different outputs?

I mount a song in the machimes, and then i play it in song-mode,
muting all tracks/instrument, except the one i´m recording. I do that
for each one.

There is another way?

So i suppose that you work direct in audio.

You make a pattern and play it, or built a song in "song-mode".

But how do you record it, the six instrumments (or 16, in MD) in the
same track?

Or do you use the six outs of the MNM, loosing in this way the stereo
image?

Like you can see, i´m a little lost. I´ve no idea how the MNM will
better go with a external sequencer, to record the songs

Thanks

sending program changes to evolver

2007-06-27 by Luke Sanger

So I'm trying out using the MD as my main sequencer and it's playing
my Evolver and my Voyager like a dream..

Only thing is I can't work out how to send program change messages to
these, I assume it's specific to the device your trying to control..
Does the Evolver only accept sysex for this or can the MD even send
sysex?

Bit confused....

If anyone has a similar setup or can help I most appreciate it!

Cheers!

hello,

it works well with my machinedrum and my monomachine, check your both
manuals... and it will works to.

cheers

I think you need the updated os on the evolver to receive normal program
change. If you don't have it you need to change the chip inside.
I never bothered as I've never needed to use it yet, but would def be handy.
Otherwise i don't think the md can send sysex

I have the same setup. AFAIK the evolver understands
standard MIDI messages for program changes. I can
change Evolver's program from any software sequencers
(Cubase, Fruity Studio, Ableton Live).
I'm not sure whether the MD can send program changes
via MIDI...

cheers

Ah, yes, I was speaking of the MD, not MnM, but it can still apply here.

Yes, I work in direct audio. I don't have a solution for the method you
desire to record in, I was merely explaining my method as I approach it.
I'll create a pattern or several patterns. Then I solo each part and
capture that as audio in Ableton Live. A new track for each part over
the same bar range.

Then I go in and edit, slice, paste, etc other variants, apply
treatments to tracks or individual hits. I can easily mute or unmute
tracks, patterns, etc, just like you would on the MnM, but instead I'm
using a hardware midi controller to mute and unmute the individual parts
in the Live sequencer.

Live actually makes this very easy to work in this manner and quickly.
Record each sound individually for each pattern on a track, and play
your mute/unmute on those channel tracks in your Seq of choice.
