Last Step ?

Last Step ?

2007-07-12 by analog1k

If the MD is based on the Roland XOX boxes, why isn't there a Last Step
feature, so you set the number of steps played in a bar ?

Surely Elektron could have added this, as a drum machine ain't a drum
machine without a last step setting?

This feature exists, and have been there since the beginning. Have a look
at page 38 in the manual.

http://www.elektron.se/support/hw/Elektron_SPS1_SPS1UW_Users_Manual_OS1.32.pdf

It is named "scale setup", not "last step".

What I always thought would be interesting would be to allow for the scale
setup to 'overflow' to the next pattern. the JoMoX does this, allowing you
to chain patterns without going into song mode. Its very ingeneious.

That would be awesome for my uses.

maybe not quite what you had in mind but you can chain patterns w/o
going into song mode. when you switch patterns in pattern mode just
hold down the patterns (simultaneously) you want to chain and it will
cycle through them.

Yeah, but what we describe is different in that the chain is saved.
It is a convenient way of extending the max length of a pattern (
which is one of the week points of the md imho)

Re: [elektron] Last Step ?

2007-07-17 by analog1k

Yeah i find that a good point actually, 64 steps (4 measures) is
better than 32 steps (2 measures) which i think is rather poor with
the MD. But then again i think of the 606,707, 727 & 909 which only
have 16 steps, the 808 32 steps. Korg ER-1 has 64 steps though! Md
should have had 64 steps to allow for variations so you wouldnt need
to pattern chain so often as it would take up user space.

I think there is scope for Elektron to make OS updates, say go from
32 steps to 64.
