Do all machinedrums have this problem ??? - double triggering?

Do all machinedrums have this problem ??? - double triggering?

2008-01-05 by blixa02

I finally just got my new machinedrum uw (from factory direct)and
after what seemed like a long wait,i am dissapointed, as it is
defective. First of all, one of the drum buttons has some sort of
hang up or catching problem which prevents it from functioning as
smoothly as the other buttons.
The other problem is that when i try to play the drum buttons
rhythmically to record a beat into live recording, they randomly will
double trigger the drum sounds(problem happens with all buttons).
This throws off the beat and is completely unacceptable for a $1700
drum machine! I read a couple posts from 2004 where someone asked
about the same issue. Somebody replied saying that it is basically
normal. I have to disagree with that. In all my experience with
hardware, it is NOT normal. Also, it is not any kind of a "bounce"
that is happening. When the problem occurs, what actually happens is
that when the button is pressed down, it triggers once. Then, when it
is let up, it triggers again. I once had an older roland drum machine
with the exact same problem, but my friend who had the exact same
drum machine did not have this problem. I replaced all the tactile
buttons on that drum machine with replacements from the factory and
still had the exact same problem. That whole experience made me
realize that it had to be an electronic problem instead of a
mechanical problem.

What i really need now, is for some people to PLEASE help me out by
playing about 12 meassures(or more)at different speeds of a beat
manually on your machinedrum and tell me if you have any double
triggering happening. I really need to find out if this is normal
behaviour in the machinedrum, or if i got a bad one. I do not want to
settle for a unit that may have worse problems in the future. I have
had a LOT of bad luck with buying hardware in the past. I am almost
ready to completely go the software/midi controller route. I mean,
$1700 is ALOT of money for something like a machinedrum, and it
should be a solid piece of gear. I just can not believe how they
seemed to have cut corners on the knobs and buttons(in a way, those
should be the most high quality parts on the machine, as they are
actually "USED" the most! The reason a person would spend so much on
just a drum machine, is for the HARDWARE interface. Thanks for your
time.

Sorry to hear about your issues, that's a real bummer for sure. I for
one do not have this double triggering issue, so it's likely an issue
with yours alone. I'd contact Elektron, they will definitely take
care of you in a hurry if this is their fault.

Does it do this with nothing hooked up to it at all? no MIDI input
our output?

My first immediate thought was that you may have a MIDI loop sending
notes back to the MD from the external source.

Ihave this issue as well, it's a mechanical problem called "bouncing",
which can be corrected in software. I don't play live on the
machinedrum though, so I don't really bother. It seems it has got
worse with the 1.50d upgrade. Definitely try contacting elektron
support.

Don't really "play" the pads that often, but sometimes (rather rare),
when adjusting locks, the button can double trig, making the step turn
off instead. All in all I must say that the quality of the neither the
knobs nor the buttons really feel reassuring, although I have no big
real issues, just the feeling...

Thanks for the quick responses. As far as the midi loop goes, no i have
this issue with nothing connected to midi at all, so it's not that.
It sucks, the more i play with this thing, the more i really do not
want to have to send it back.....I do however feel that i will have to
because that kind of money takes me a LONG time to save up. I just hope
they will have another one(without defects) to exchange soon.
I have also noticed that the scale led's and the
synthesis/effects/routing led's randomly change on their own sometimes.
I don't know if that's normal either....
Anyone else get the double triggering when tapping out beats?

Thanks for your replies. As far as it being a midi loop issue, i do not
have anything connected to midi, so it's not that. I guess i am going
to have to request an exchange and i hopefully will not have problems
with the new one. I really love the machinedrum. I think it sounds
great!

Just found out my MD has the exact same problem (double trgg) sine I
updated to 1.50e , along with some other issues. I'm getting the
feeling this update (1.50e) is a mess....

I've experienced that double trigger thing. I never though of bringing
the issue up as it never affected me, although I do find it annoying...
but I sort of brushed it off as thinking my fingers are too fast, LOL.
