Do all machinedrums have this problem ??? - double triggering?
2008-01-05 by blixa02
I finally just got my new machinedrum uw (from factory direct)and after what seemed like a long wait,i am dissapointed, as it is defective. First of all, one of the drum buttons has some sort of hang up or catching problem which prevents it from functioning as smoothly as the other buttons. The other problem is that when i try to play the drum buttons rhythmically to record a beat into live recording, they randomly will double trigger the drum sounds(problem happens with all buttons). This throws off the beat and is completely unacceptable for a $1700 drum machine! I read a couple posts from 2004 where someone asked about the same issue. Somebody replied saying that it is basically normal. I have to disagree with that. In all my experience with hardware, it is NOT normal. Also, it is not any kind of a "bounce" that is happening. When the problem occurs, what actually happens is that when the button is pressed down, it triggers once. Then, when it is let up, it triggers again. I once had an older roland drum machine with the exact same problem, but my friend who had the exact same drum machine did not have this problem. I replaced all the tactile buttons on that drum machine with replacements from the factory and still had the exact same problem. That whole experience made me realize that it had to be an electronic problem instead of a mechanical problem. What i really need now, is for some people to PLEASE help me out by playing about 12 meassures(or more)at different speeds of a beat manually on your machinedrum and tell me if you have any double triggering happening. I really need to find out if this is normal behaviour in the machinedrum, or if i got a bad one. I do not want to settle for a unit that may have worse problems in the future. I have had a LOT of bad luck with buying hardware in the past. I am almost ready to completely go the software/midi controller route. I mean, $1700 is ALOT of money for something like a machinedrum, and it should be a solid piece of gear. I just can not believe how they seemed to have cut corners on the knobs and buttons(in a way, those should be the most high quality parts on the machine, as they are actually "USED" the most! The reason a person would spend so much on just a drum machine, is for the HARDWARE interface. Thanks for your time.
