Can the sps 1 go up to 64 steps with the new 1.5f update?

Can the sps 1 go up to 64 steps with the new 1.5f update?

2008-02-03 by thephonographeffect

Just wondering if the Elektron SPS 1 can go up to 64 steps using the new update? I know it doesn't have the write amount of LEDs but surely it can?

Thanks Matt

oh and cheers to all you guys who helped me with the other issues!!!

AFAIK it can't. I've got the latest update on my Mk1 and it doesn't do so. I expect there's a way of hacking it that will let you but I wouldn't really use 4 bar patterns that much anyway, I'd chain two patterns together if I needed to do so.

Noooo....you can not, and I dont think we ever will, since that would
make the Classic and SPS/UW-MkII identical in the functional aspect
(well, aside from the signal/noise ratio), and this wouldnt be a wise
marketing technique...you know, it would make the MkII seem less "new
& improved".

The have to give a "little extra something" for those who choose to
buy a brand new MkII, instead of going for a used Classic (a
significantly cheaper option.)

Regards

Well, the mk2 has 4 ram machines, more sample slots and DC power (which
is very interresting if you want to battery power it) as well, so I
think I would have upgraded even if the mk1 had gotten the 64 steps.

There are 2.5 MB of total RAM - you can store up to 48
samples permanently. There are four RAM machines, which
can be saved to one of those 48 slots.

MD samples are mono. Hope that help.

One more thing Niall didn't mention, the MD lowers all samples to 12bit.

???? That's just how much memory is installed, the MKI's have even
less, only 2MB. IT doesn't sound like much on paper, but when you get
yours, you'll realize just how much you can do with that amount.
Remember it uses 12bit mono only samples too, so you can fit more than
you might think in there.

Technical reasons due to the hardware used in the UW. At least that's what
the Elektron guys have said when I asked them.
