emu8000

interesting then, that Yannes went on to form emu / ensoniq. These are the synth chips found in most soundblaster cards. I have an AWE64 with an emu8000 .. on looking into this it's an interesting chip, not greatly powerful but has LFO (sinewave), filter (with envelope). I found an interesting article about synthesis using the emu8000 chip, and techniques of generating basic waveforms which are looped then processed through the chip architecture. I used to do this all the time to make chip music in st3 (in 8bit!) then with IT , later with the joys of hardware & software filter & amplitude envelopes (no lfo access). however, this is generally a static for of waveform generation .. but you can layer sounds and use the lfo, which appears to be used primarily for simple vibrato and sweeping modulation. Interesting however, to hear some of the huge, de-tuned synth sounds to be achieved with 16bit waveforms in the wavetable! .. now i'm picturing this chip in a box with the SIDstyle OS .. the emu8000 sampler . lofi 16bit :) andrew
