The main thing before starting the development is to planify and analyse what your soft should do (storing/loading preset, modify random parameters, a cool user frontend). My advice is to establish the sketch of your complete soft and list and describe all the features before starting the development. This is a requirement if you need to work on the project after have let it away after some time. Finally I should recomend you VB as development tool, because it is really accessible and the editor is cool.
